ElevateOS & Salto KS Integration: Property Manager Guide
Property Manager Guide to ElevateOS & Salto KS Integration
For: Property managers and on-site staff
This guide covers how Salto KS works for residents through ElevateOS, what property managers do in Salto KS, and how to handle common issues.
Background
Salto KS lets residents unlock doors from inside the ElevateOS resident app after a one-time OAuth sign-in with their Salto KS account. Resident lifecycle and door assignments are managed in Salto KS directly, not in ElevateOS. ElevateOS reads from Salto KS and acts on the resident's behalf when they tap a door.
Unlock is cloud-based — the resident's phone needs internet at the moment of unlock.
What residents see
Inside the ElevateOS resident app, residents get:
- A one-time sign-in flow that authenticates them with Salto KS via OAuth
- Access to whichever doors are configured for their account in Salto KS
- A sign-out option for switching accounts
Residents do not need to install a separate Salto app.
How resident sign-in and unlock work
The first time a resident uses Salto KS in the ElevateOS resident app:
- A Salto KS sign-in page opens in a web view.
- The resident enters their Salto KS credentials on the Salto KS page.
- They're redirected back into the resident app with an access token.
- The token is stored on the device.
For day-to-day use, the app sends unlock requests through the Salto KS API and the door opens. Internet is required at unlock.
What property managers control
Salto KS user lifecycle and door assignments are managed in Salto KS, not ElevateOS. There is no per-resident Salto KS section on the ElevateOS resident profile.
Day-to-day, in Salto KS:
- Create accounts for new residents
- Assign door access to each resident
- Disable accounts when residents move out
ElevateOS reads from this configuration; it does not write to it.
Resident requirements
For Salto KS to work for a resident:
- They have Current status in your PMS
- A Salto KS account exists for them with door access already configured
- They know their Salto KS credentials so they can complete the OAuth sign-in
- Their phone has internet at the moment of unlock
Best practices
1. Treat Salto KS as the source of truth
User lifecycle and door assignments live in Salto KS. Don't look for door pickers on the ElevateOS resident profile — there aren't any.
2. Build move-out discipline
Disable the Salto KS account as part of your standard move-out process. ElevateOS does not auto-revoke.
3. Hand off Salto KS credentials at move-in
Residents complete the OAuth sign-in with their Salto KS username and password, so they need to know those credentials before they can unlock anything. Include them — or the Salto KS password-reset path — in your move-in packet.
4. Set onboarding expectations
When a new resident moves in, tell them:
- They don't need the Salto app — unlock works inside the ElevateOS resident app
- The first time they tap into Salto KS, a Salto KS sign-in page opens in a web view; that's expected
- After the one-time sign-in, the app stays connected
- Unlock requires internet at the door
Troubleshooting
- Resident can't complete the OAuth sign-in. Confirm the Salto KS account is active and the credentials are correct. Have the resident sign out and back in to clear any stale session. If sign-in still fails, route the resident through Salto KS's password reset rather than trying to fix it from ElevateOS.
- Resident signs in but can't unlock a specific door. Doors may not be assigned, or the resident's permissions don't cover that door. Verify in Salto KS.
- Cloud unlock fails at the door. Confirm the resident has Wi-Fi or cellular at the door. A wider Salto KS outage will affect every resident — check Salto KS's status before deep-diving on a single ticket.
- Resident still has access after move-out. Disable the Salto KS account. ElevateOS does not auto-revoke.
FAQs
What's the difference between Salto KS and Salto Space? They're two different Salto products. Salto Space has a deeper integration in ElevateOS — automated daily provisioning, per-resident dashboard, Bluetooth offline unlock, visitor keyless access, and amenity-tied access. Salto KS is a simpler, OAuth-based flow without those extras.
Can I migrate from Salto KS to Salto Space? Yes — talk to your ElevateOS representative. The resident-facing mobile experience is similar; the back-end and dashboard differ.
Does the resident need the Salto app? No. Sign-in and unlock both happen inside the ElevateOS resident app.
Does unlock work without internet? No. Salto KS unlock through ElevateOS is cloud-based and requires internet at the door.
Does Salto KS sync residents automatically from ElevateOS? No. Resident lifecycle is managed in Salto KS.
What happens when a resident moves out? Disable the Salto KS account in Salto KS. ElevateOS does not auto-revoke.
Does Salto KS support visitor access through ElevateOS? This guide doesn't cover a visitor flow for Salto KS. Salto Space does support visitor keyless access — if you need that capability, talk to your ElevateOS representative about migrating.
