ElevateOS & Schlage Integration: Property Manager Guide

Learn how ElevateOS & Schlage Engage integrate

For: Property managers and on-site staff

This guide covers how integrate Schlage mobile key into the ElevateOS resident app, what property managers control, and how to handle day-to-day management and common issues. Use it as a reference when onboarding a building to troubleshooting a resident's access.

Background

ElevateOS connects to Schlage / Allegion locks, so a resident's phone becomes their building key. Residents see the locks they have access to inside the ElevateOS resident app and unlock them over Bluetooth — no separate Schlage app needed.

Property managers control which locks each resident can open, and access is provisioned and revoked automatically based on move-in and move-out dates. If your Schlage card inventory has cards available, residents also get a physical smart card in addition to the mobile key.

What residents see

Inside the ElevateOS resident app, residents get:

  • A mobile key for their unit door and any common-area locks they're entitled to
  • Bluetooth unlock that works offline once the phone is set up
  • A list of accessible locks, with the option to favorite frequently used ones
  • A physical smart card, if your Schlage card inventory has cards available — issued in addition to the mobile key

Residents do not need to install the Schlage app.

How resident unlock works

The first time a resident signs in:

  1. The app authenticates them and pulls their list of locks.
  2. The mobile credential is provisioned on the phone via the Allegion Mobile Access SDK.
  3. The credential is cached on-device.

For day-to-day use:

  1. The resident approaches a lock.
  2. They tap the lock in the app, or use a favorite shortcut.
  3. The phone broadcasts the credential over Bluetooth and the lock opens.

Bluetooth and location permissions must be granted to the ElevateOS app, and the phone needs to be within range of the lock — but no internet is required at unlock time.

What property managers control

On the resident profile, in the Schlage section, you can:

  • Provision a resident for immediate access, rather than waiting for the daily provisioning run
  • Connect an existing Schlage user if the resident was created outside ElevateOS
  • Reassign locks — pick from the list of available locks in your building
  • Confirm to push the updated lock list to Schlage

Mid-lease changes (for example, adding amenity room access) are made here. The daily run only handles initial provisioning and revocation.

What runs automatically

Three things happen on their own each day:

  • Move-in provisioning — residents whose move-in date is today are created in Schlage with their lock assignments. If your apartment numbers match lock names exactly, the unit door is auto-assigned. Otherwise, assign locks manually on the resident profile.
  • Move-out revocation — residents whose move-out date is today have their Schlage access cleared automatically.
  • Smart card assignment — if cards are available in your Schlage inventory, one is automatically assigned to each new resident.

The provisioning run happens once per day. Same-day move-ins added after the run can be provisioned manually on the resident profile.

Resident requirements

For a resident's mobile key to work:

  • They have Current status in your PMS
  • Their move-in date has been reached and they've been provisioned
  • They've granted Bluetooth and location permissions to the ElevateOS resident app
  • Their apartment number matches a lock in Schlage exactly, or you've manually assigned locks on their profile

Best practices

1. Keep apartment numbers aligned

Apartment numbers in ElevateOS need to match lock names in Schlage exactly for auto-assign to work. Pick one convention and keep it consistent across both systems.

2. Make mid-stay door changes on the resident profile

The daily run only handles initial move-in and move-out. If a resident gets access to a new room during their lease, reassign locks on their profile — don't wait for the daily run.

3. Provision late move-ins manually

If a resident moves in after the daily run has finished for the day, provision them on the spot from their profile rather than making them wait until tomorrow.

4. Restock smart card inventory before a heavy move-in week

Smart cards are issued automatically when inventory is available. If a wave of move-ins lands and inventory runs out mid-day, later residents get mobile access only. Check inventory ahead of a busy week.

5. Set onboarding expectations

When a new resident moves in, tell them:

  • Their phone is their key — no separate Schlage app needed
  • They need to grant Bluetooth and location permissions to the ElevateOS app
  • The key works offline once set up
  • If your building issues smart cards, they get one automatically when provisioned

Troubleshooting

  • Resident's app shows no locks. Confirm the resident was actually provisioned on their profile. If you rely on auto-assign, confirm the apartment number matches a lock name in Schlage exactly. If apartment names don't match, manually pick the right locks on the resident profile.
  • Bluetooth unlock fails at the door. Confirm Bluetooth and location permissions are granted to the ElevateOS app. Confirm the resident is within Bluetooth range of the lock. Have them sign out and back in to refresh the credential.
  • Resident still has access after move-out. Confirm the move-out date is set correctly in your PMS. If the date is right and access is still active, manually revoke from the resident profile.
  • Same-day move-in resident has no key. The daily provisioning run happens once per day. For move-ins that need access immediately, provision manually on the resident profile.
  • Smart card wasn't assigned. Your Schlage card inventory may be empty. The resident still has Bluetooth mobile access — just no physical card. Restock your card inventory in Schlage and reassign.
  • "No doors assigned" on the resident profile. The system couldn't find a lock matching the resident's apartment name, and no manual locks were picked. Pick the right locks on the resident profile and confirm.

FAQs

Does the mobile key work offline? Yes. The credential is cached on the phone via the Allegion SDK and unlocks over Bluetooth without internet.

Can a resident use both a mobile key and a smart card? Yes, if your Schlage inventory has cards available. Otherwise the resident is mobile-only.

Can I add a lock to a resident in the middle of their lease? Yes — reassign locks on their profile. The daily run doesn't touch existing residents' lock lists.

What if a resident moves in today after the daily run? Provision them manually on their profile.

Will existing Schlage users be affected when ElevateOS provisions a resident? The system looks up users by email and updates their lock list. It doesn't delete existing Schlage users.

Does this work with Yardi, Entrata, RealPage, or other PMS systems? Yes. The integration uses move-in and move-out dates from your PMS data.

What happens if a resident gets a new phone? They sign into the ElevateOS resident app on the new device and the credential is re-provisioned automatically.

Doe we support visitor access through ElevateOS? This guide doesn't cover a visitor flow yet. This function is coming soon - June 2026.
